Copiah County Medical Center to Host Free Diabetes

Education Event Friday, February 7

Copiah County Medical Center will present a free and informative diabetes program, Diabetes and Me, on Friday, February 7 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. The community education class will take place in the Copiah County Medical Center Conference Room located at 27190 Highway 28 in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. Anyone who would like to know more about diabetes, especially people living with diabetes, are welcome to attend and learn how to manage diabetes and be healthy. Classes will be held every Friday of each month through June 2020.

Diabetes education helps people lower their blood sugar, their blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Classes are taught by diabetes educators and experienced health care professionals who specialize in helping people with diabetes. Class topics include healthy eating, being active, monitoring diabetes, taking medications, reducing risks and more.

Diabetes is among the top 10 causes of death in the nation. According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes and pre-diabetes affect more than 110 million Americans. Diabetes can cause several serious complications. Type 2 diabetes, the most common form, is largely preventable through diet and exercise.
