Staff RN-PRN - Emergency Department
Job Summary: Utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with overall patient care as primary focus. Works with a variety of health care professionals. Can work guided by nursing protocols. Functions as team leader, charge nurse as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provides direct and indirect patient care to meet psychological and emotional needs of the patient within the framework established by Copiah County Medical Center.
A. Performs assessments of patients in a variety of settings such as emergency situations. Utilizes assessment skills that require a knowledge base of both normal and abnormal adult/pediatric health status. Communicate assessment data in a comprehensive, orderly fashion verbally and in writing.
• Implements nursing care and medical care orders in a knowledgeable, safe and cost effective manner. Documents nursing care and appropriate medically directed care in accordance with policies and procedures of Copiah County Medical Center. Provides patient education as an integral part of total patient care
• Plans nursing care by identification of patient needs based on assessments. Documents plans appropriately.
• As team leader or charge nurse delegate duties to other health care team members based on their skill, knowledge and experience and guides the provision of care by others.
• Evaluates and documents patient responses to treatment and care and reports negative outcomes to Physicians and other members of the health care team appropriately.

B. Utilizes effective communication skills by demonstrating respect, concern and courtesy in all interpersonal relationships.
• Communicates information in an accurate, concise and timely manner.
• Protects confidentiality of information in written and verbal communications.
• Participates in problem solving activities of the health care team by attending unit meetings, utilizing positive interpersonal skills and appropriate channels to initiate change.
• Functions as a role model for other health care personnel and maintains harmonious relationships with patients, family members and members of the health care team.
C. Uses current knowledge to promote a safe environment for providing health care to patients.
• Maintains clinical areas as well as nursing station in a clean, neat, safe manner and participates in required drug counts.
• Adheres to Copiah County Medical Center and medical units Infection Control policies.
• Understands and adheres to safe nursing practices and adheres to directives.
• Adheres to environmental safety guidelines, policies and procedures. Participates in fire and disaster programs and drills as appropriate.
D. Maintains current professional skills and continues professional growth to enhance the practice of nursing and the image of Copiah County Medical Center.
• Attends appropriate in-service and continuing education offerings to obtain and maintain necessary skills.
• Accepts assignments and extra duties with flexibility and willingness to participate in activities other than direct patient care.
E. Adheres to personnel policies to enhance operation of the health care unit.
• Conforms to dress code as set forth by Copiah County Medical Center.
• Adheres to the attendance policy.
• Reports to work at designated time.
• Maintains required biannual licensure and credentialing requirements for nursing personnel of the health care unit.
• Adheres to universal precautions and other inflectional control practices.

Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Mississippi. Must have current BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications. Must have a clear background check prior to employment. Applicant must be able to successfully pass a drug screen. Attends and participates in continuing education consistent with the requirements of the Mississippi State Board of Nursing and Copiah County Medical Center. Updates and maintains skills and knowledge related to nursing.
